Dempster Highway ...July 14 - 16, 2009

While in Dawson we decided to take a side trip over the Arctic Circle. We had wanted to go to Inuvik, but the weather did not co-operate. Here are pictures of our time..the road was gravel, but not too bad considering.

Beginning the Dempster Highway

Fields of Fireweed

Here come the large trucks

Dahl sheep

Two Moose Lake

Cotton Plant

Red Creek

Elephant Rock

Red Hillside

First the rains came

It was pouring rain and very cold...we did not tent camp, but stayed at the Eagle Plains Hotel. We were fortunate to get a room, some were turned away. We think they must have stayed in their cars overnight. There is no where else to stay for 370 kms.

Then the following morning we had snow on our way to the Arctic Circle

We made it to the Arctic Circle

Check out this temperature

Having a toast at the Arctic Circle

Our car really needs a bath

We tent camped at Tombstone River Territorial Park....that night the temps got down to 32 degrees and there was a little frost on the windshields
